The Fairy Painting is chosen by the American Booksellers Association as a “Children’s Pick” for Fall, 2005
Over 200 books were nominated by independent booksellers around the country

Traverse City, Michigan – Booksense, the national marketing division of the American Booksellers Association, has chosen The Fairy Painting as a Children’s Pick for Fall, 2005. Books are nominated by independent booksellers. Rich Rennicks from Malaprop’s Bookstore in Asheville, North Carolina said,”From the ingenious beginning, a twisty tale is spun with great characters, gorgeous art and lots of inventive fairy lore.”

In a time when even eight-year-old girls are growing up too fast, The Fairy Painting brings a fresh perspective to the self-esteem issue: it tells the story of Elise, a young girl working on a painting in her backyard. When a tiny fairy gets stuck in the wet paint, the two embark on a journey that ultimately shows Elise the importance of responsibility and self-confidence.

The Fairy Painting, written by Stacey DuFord and illustrated by Wendy Popko, is published by Traverse City-based Mackinac Island Press. “We are honored and thrilled that The Fairy Painting was chosen,” says publisher Anne Lewis. “Our hope is that young people, especially young girls, will take to heart the importance of believing in their own self-worth.”

“ Elise and the fairy meet through a mishap, but they become friends who genuinely care about each other,” says author Stacey DuFord. “And caring for a fairy opens up a whole new world for Elise,” she adds. A portion of all book proceeds will go to the International Rett Syndrome Association. Rett syndrome is a neurological disorder that strikes infant and toddler girls.

Stacey DuFord is a former morning radio personality, television reporter and host. She has also worked as a stand-up comedian, and has written material for a national comedy radio service. Stacey is currently working on several book projects for Mackinac Island Press.

Wendy Popko is an accomplished artist. Her next book is Has Anyone Seen Christmas? (Mackinac Island Press, September, 2005).
